UPTOWN — Whether or not you believe the foretellings born from tarot cards, attempts at divination say a lot about human nature — and offer insights that local artists plan to explore in a new art exhibit opening this month.

"The Tarot Show" at Uptown Arts Center will celebrate "the elegant allegory of Tarot," from Sept. 27 to Oct. 26, according to the art center's description of the exhibit.

"Tarot illustrates our attraction to insights into ourselves, our world, and our past, present and future," according to the art center, which located on the fourth floor of the Preston Bradley Center, 941 W. Lawrence Ave. "Being more about choice than prediction and crossing the borders of conventional thought into our subconscious, tarot can become a meditative practice and a way to illuminate the complexity of human behavior."

The show features work from 16 artists, most from the North Side or Uptown: Colette Wright Adams, Chris Altschuler, Deborah Baker, Katherine Chronis, Frank Connet, Brian Hofmeister, Joshua Kent, Erin McNamara, Dan Merlo, Janet Metzger, Kimberly Mullarkey, Steven Sidelinger, Doug Stapleton, Eden Unluata, Nancy VanKanegan, Gail Simpson Wolf.

An opening reception is scheduled for 5-8 p.m. Sept. 27.
