ENGLEWOOD — The nonprofit American Red Cross is hosting a fire safety fair Saturday.

The free fair begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at Atonement Covenant Church, 7001 S. Laflin St. and the first 70 participants to register will receive a free smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector, fire extinguisher, window insulation film, and a surge protector, which is designed to protect electrical devices from voltage spikes.

The fair is part of the Red Cross' Team Firestopper program, which was developed to target areas most impacted by home fires such as Englewood, according to Red Cross officials.

"Our goals for the program are to educate communities about fire safety, encourage families to take action to reduce the risk of home fire, equip families with the tools necessary to protect themselves, and finally to address the knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and behaviors influencing home safety," Red Cross spokeswoman Dani Connolly said.

To register call 312-729-6265.
