WICKER PARK —  An SUV crashed into the window of Pinky Nail Studio in Wicker Park early Monday, prompting the salon to close on Labor Day.

"People are calling us; asking if we are open," said co-owner Hye Shim, who was standing in front of a floor covered with crushed glass and a broken nail drying machine at her salon early Monday.

Hye Shim and her husband Jason Shim said they rushed from their home in Lincolnwood to Pinky Nail Studio at 1508 N. Damen Ave., around 5:30 a.m. Monday after hearing about the incident from police.

The crash, which occurred around 5 a.m. Monday, broke a large glass entry window in front of a drying station but did not impact the salon's pedicure treatment chairs or tables.

The driver, a 25-year-old woman from Carol Stream, said she was heading to 7-Eleven to buy cigarettes for a friend when her brakes failed, but would not comment further. No one was injured in the incident.

Jason Shim, who opened the studio in a strip mall just south of the CTA Damen Blue Line "L" station eight years ago, said it could be at least a week until the salon window is restored and the broken equipment is fixed.

"If I came in as customer, how can it be comfortable? I don't want to have questions from people all day about this," Shim said.
