CHICAGO — A second man has been charged in a fatal shooting at a Far South Side prom party in May that killed a mother of three, police said Sunday.

Summer Moore, 37, was shot to death May 9 while attending a party at her cousin's home in the 11400 block of South Aberdeen Street.

On Sunday, police announced charges against Marsharra Tate, 19, of the 8300 block of South Saginaw Avenue. Police said Tate and another man, Johnny Reese, 23, drove past the party and fired shots, striking Moore. Reese was charged in June.

Tate was charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder, as well as for firing a weapon near a school. He is scheduled to appear in court Sunday.

Moore, an aspiring nurse, was shot in her chest about 7:50 p.m. while in the front yard of her cousin's home, as they celebrated Simeon Career Academy's prom. She was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where she died.

"She loved her family. All she wanted to do was spend time with her family," said Moore's cousin, Laquitta Williams. "There are other relatives who aren't able to spend as much time with our family, but she was always there for us. She just loved to have fun with her family."

Police said Moore was not the intended target.
