ROGERS PARK — Argentine muralist Carolina "Cuore" Favale painted a wall-sized mural at Royal Coffee in just one night.

And she captured it all on camera.

By the end of the five-minute video, the sun has risen and the colorful mural, featuring two Ethiopian subjects, is finished.

Favale, who traveled home to Argentina, could not be reached for comment. But Nathan Minnehan, of Rogers Park, said he invited Favale to Chicago to paint not only Royal's mural but three others — in Pilsen, Wicker Park and Ravenswood.

Through his company WalknTalk, he donated $300 to help her with travel expenses.

Minnehan said he and Favale, whom he met on his previous travels to her country, have been planning the series of murals for years.

The Royal mural, he said, complements an open mic night, Royal Souls, that he organizes on Mondays at the cafe.

"It sets a tone when you walk in that doorway," he said, adding that Royal owner Yodit Bekele, upon walking into the coffeehouse the morning the mural was completed, had "tears in her eyes" because of its beauty.
