CHICAGO — A Chicago Lawn man was killed and another person was injured Monday morning in a shooting in Back of the Yards, authorities said.

About 9 a.m., a 23-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were standing in the 5000 block of South Winchester Avenue when two men got out of a vehicle and opened fire on them, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman.

The two gunmen fled the scene. The 23-year-old was transferred to Holy Cross Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival, authorities said. He was identified as Joseph Lewis, of the 3500 block of West 60th Place, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The 17-year-old boy was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was listed in critical condition, Sweeney said.
