PORTAGE PARK — The indoor pool at Portage Park will be closed from Aug. 30 to Sept. 8 for cleaning and repairs, Chicago Park District officials said.

The indoor pool is typically closed during the summer months while the park's outdoor pool is open for fun in the sun.

But the indoor pool stayed open this summer for the first time because of an increased demand for children's swim lessons, Park Supervisor Deb Groh said.

"We had a lot of requests for swim lessons, both for preschoolers and grade school students," Groh said.

While the pool is closed, it will be cleaned and re-grouted and maintenance issues will be addressed, Groh said.

Portage Park's outdoor pool, 4100 N. Long Ave. will be open through Labor Day, Sept. 1.
