MCKINLEY PARK — The annual 12th Ward Back-to-School Health Fair will have a new component this year, a farmer's market.

The event takes place 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 30 at the McKinley Park field house, 2210 W. Pershing Road. It's free to attend, but the farmer's market produce will be for sale.

Now in its 12th year, the health fair includes free health screenings, eye exams, dental exams and vaccinations for school-aged kids. It's hosted in conjunction with the city's health departtment.

In a statement, Ald. George Cardenas (12th) said the farmer's market component is a test run for a potential regularly held market next spring. He's inviting residents to give feedback during and after the event.

A list of vendors was not immediately available, but a staffer for Cardenas said organic fruits and vegetables will be sold at the fair.
