BRIDGEPORT — An elderly man and woman are dead after an apparent "domestic-related murder-suicide" at their home, police said.
The man was identified as Chen Su, 84, and the woman was identified as Hsin Su, also 84, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
Chen Su fatally shot Hsin Su before killing himself, according to authorities. Both were found in a bedroom of their modest brick home about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday with gunshot wounds to the head, authorities said.
Police did not have information about the Su's marital status but neighbors in the 900 block of West 31st Place said the couple had lived in Bridgeport for at least a decade.
On Wednesday, the pair were remembered by neighbors as a "typical old couple" who were quiet and friendly and seemed to enjoy working on house projects together.
Hsin Su, who neighbors said was 83 years old, could often be found tending to their front-yard garden, a lush landscape of produce and flowers. Chen Su, despite a slight hunch in his back, often accompanied his wife on slow walks throughout the neighborhood.
"She was always in the garden and he was always with her. They were always out working and active. It's just kind of sad. It's sad that's the way this ended," said Steve Torres, a neighbor.
Police did not have details about a motive or how the shootings took place.
