Man Dead, Five Wounded Overnight

CHICAGO — A 27-year-old man is dead, and five other people were injured in shootings across the city overnight.

The most recent shooting left a man dead in North Lawndale just before midnight.

Police were called to the 800 block of South Central Park Avenue around 11:35 p.m. Monday and found the man in the street with gunshot wounds to his chest, said Officer Ron Gaines, a Chicago Police Department spokesman. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Gaines said.

The victim was identified as Seadl Commings of the 3600 block of West Polk Street, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said.

No one is in custody for the shooting.

In other violence:

• Around 11:30 p.m., a 33-year-old man was shot multiple times when he was robbed during a drug deal, according to police. The shooting was in the 7100 block of South Artesian Avenue in Chicago Lawn. The victim was shot in his back and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in stable condition, Gaines said.

• About an hour earlier, three people were shot while standing on the sidewalk in Auburn Gresham. The three were in the 7800 block of South Winchester Avenue around 10:25 p.m. when a dark car pulled up and someone exited it, opening fire. A 20-year-old man was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition after being shot multiple times, Gaines said.

A 26-year-old woman was also taken to Stroger in stable condition after being shot in her leg. A 16-year-old girl was in stable condition at Holy Cross Hospital after being shot in her arm, Gaines said.

• Around 7 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot by two men who exited a grey van in the 7500 block of South Drexel Avenue in Greater Grand Crossing. The man drove himself to University of Chicago Medicine and was transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital in stable condition after being shot in his leg, Gaines said.
