BRIDGEPORT — God's Closet is extending its hours for one week only, part of a back-to-school clearance event.

But calling it a sale would be a mistake: everything's already free.

The community donation center, where patrons can shop for free clothes and home goods, is at First Lutheran Church of the Trinity, 643 W. 31st St.

"Every few years we get to realizing God's Closet is overcrowded. We share a lot of that stuff with the Pacific Garden Mission but every so often we just get too full and we stay open for a solid week," church spokeswoman Rene Paquin said.

Beginning Aug. 25, the store will be open from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Those hours will remain in effect through Aug. 29. God's Closet is typically open three days a week: 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, 10 a.m.-noon on Friday and from the end of Sunday worship until 1 p.m.

Also on Aug. 25, the church will be visited by the Mobile C.A.R.E. Foundation's Asthma Van, which will offer free asthma screenings to visitors. That takes place 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

More health-related organizations are expected to visit the church throughout the week.
