GRAND CROSSING — The Eta Creative Arts Foundation Inc. will show the screenplay "227," based on the hit NBC sitcom from 1985 to 1990, starting next month.

The play will run on weekends from Sept. 12 to Oct. 19 at the Eta, 7558 S. South Chicago Ave. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturdays and 3 p.m. on Sundays, and tickets are $35.

Kemati Porter, interim executive director of the Eta, said this is the first time it is hosting the two-hour play, which was written by Christine Houston while she was a student at Kennedy-King College.

Houston, an author and screenwriting lecturer at Chicago State University, wrote the play based off her childhood growing up at 227 E. 48th St. in Bronzeville. In addition to writing for the 227 TV series, Houston also was a writer for 227, "The Jeffersons" and "Punky Brewster" TV series.
