UPTOWN — Heavy rains last week caused flooding at the Brixton, leading the city to temporarily close one of Andersonville's favorite watering holes and dining spots. But owners expect to open shop again Thursday afternoon.

Co-owner Tim Casey said Wednesday evening that the city had given the Brixton the green light to resume doing business at 5420 N. Clark St.

"We are open for business tomorrow at 3 o'clock," Casey told DNAinfo Chicago.

The New American gastropub and bar has been closed since Friday, when city inspectors suspended its licenses until the owners fixed a plumbing problem that had led to flooding.

Co-owner Ted Webler, referring to heavy rains that hit Chicago last week, blamed the problem on "these crazy monsoons we've been having."

"We had one of those last Wednesday, and we got like an inch [of rain] in 35 minutes ... it was ridiculous," he said.

As a result, one of the drain pipes got clogged near the front of the Brixton, housed in an "old rickety 1932 building," as Webler put it.

"Then we happened to get a surprise visit from the city," right before the restaurant opened Friday night, Webler said. "All the poor cooks were standing there in the kitchen like, 'What do we do? Do we chop the broccoli or not?'"

Now "the place looks amazing, like it did when it was opened," Webler said, assuring DNAinfo Chicago the plumbing issue had been fixed along with any other damage.

Webler and Casey also own University Village pub The Drum and Monkey.
