BACK OF THE YARDS — If you've been curious about the goings-on at The Plant, the sustainable food production facility that replaced an old meatpacking plant, Saturday would be a good time to check it out.

The Plant's Monster Food Truck Rally, which includes food and beer vendors, live music and discounted tours, takes place 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the building, 1400 W. 47th St. Tickets cost $5 in advance (available online) or $7 at the door. Kids 12 and under are free.

Food trucks confirmed to appear include La Adelita, Bridgeport Pasty, Taquero Fusion, Pierogi Wagon, Vegan Food Truck, BobCha, Doner Men, and Flirty Cupcakes.

Also vending on Saturday will be Belli's Juice Bar and some of the tenants inside the sustainable food production facility, including Pleasant House Bakery, Arize Kombucha and Peerless Bread & Jam.

Lagunitas, the craft brewery that just opened a big production facility in Chicago, will be serving beers throughout the day.

Guests on Saturday will also have the chance to buy discounted tour tickets for the 93,000-square-foot building, where indoor farmers, bakers and brewers work toward a "closed loop" model of food production, where byproducts from one business help run another, as well as admission to an exhibit that displays art from salvaged materials.

Proceeds from the event benefit The Plant's educational nonprofit arm.
