National Night Out with Near North Police Includes 'Lego Movie,' BBQ

NEAR NORTH — Everything will be awesome at the Near North Police District's annual National Night Out event Tuesday, hosted this year at the police station's parking lot and nearby at Park Community Church Auditorium.

The local event is part of a nationwide initiative that "celebrates police, community, partnerships and safe neighborhoods," according to Community Policing Sgt. Cynthia Schumann.

The event kicks off at 4 p.m. with a family-style barbecue in the district's parking lot at 1160 N. Larrabee St. Food will be served until 6 p.m., when the "The Lego Movie" will be screened in the auditorium at Park Community Church at 1000 N. Crosby St.

The event is expected to wrap up around 8 p.m.
