HUMBOLDT PARK — Augusta Park's major makeover was unveiled this weekend, and Mayor Rahm Emanuel came out to celebrate.

The park, located at 4433 W. Augusta Blvd., had a damaged fieldhouse that was completely overhauled. A new playground was also added.

On Sunday, Emanuel and Park District Superintendent Michael Kelly joined residents at the park, which was funded through $600,000 in Chicago Park District money in addition to $2.1 million in state grants.

All exterior windows and doors on the field house were repaired, restored or replaced, according to park district officials. Exterior drain lines were cleared and repaired to ensure proper drainage from the building’s roof as well.

“Providing inviting playgrounds where neighbors will come together and children can play is what the Park District strives for,” Kelly said in a statement. “We are excited to continue renovating and building new parks and playgrounds all over the City.”

The Augusta Park playground is one of 103 playgrounds to be renovated this year under Emanuel’s Chicago Plays! Program launched in 2013.
