BRIDGEPORT — Have a bite to eat and meet your neighbors at the Chicago Police Department Deering District's "National Night Out."

The event, which features food and activities, takes place 5:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Deering District headquarters at 3120 S. Halsted St. It's free to attend.

Now in its 31st year, the event is part of a larger effort across the country that aims to highlight the role that community partnerships play in fighting crime and neighborhood blight. It's a project of the National Association of Town Watch, a nonprofit that promotes crime prevention programs.
