EDGEWATER — Family and friends of Demond Parnell, the Rogers Park barber gunned down in Edgewater last week, plan to celebrate his life at a memorial service Saturday.
The service, which is open to the public, will take place at Epworth United Methodist Church — on the same block where the 34-year-old was killed.
About 10 p.m. on July 21, officers were called to the 5200 block of North Kenmore Avenue, where they found Parnell unresponsive on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Friends said Parnell lived with his mother in Edgewater and worked for the past 10 years at Nennie's Hair Salon on Howard Street.
The service begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Parking is available on the street or in the Christian Science Church parking lot, which is located on the northwest corner of Kenmore and Berwyn avenues.
Attendees are encouraged to RSVP.
