LOGAN SQUARE — Plans to overhaul an industrial corridor that borders Logan Square, Wicker Park and Lincoln Park will be discussed by residents and project organizers this week.
Organizers with the North Branch River Works project will begin meeting with local residents Tuesday to discuss how they will use a $200,000 Environmental Protection Agency grant to improve the North Branch Industrial Corridor— Diversey Avenue to North Avenue and Western Avenue to Halsted Street.
The first outreach meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Little Sisters of the Poor Auditorium, 2325 North Lakewood Ave. Comments will also be taken online throughout the 18-month planning process before North Branch Works and Delta Institute begin to oversee the development and implementation of the North Branch River Works plan.
The plan will “focus on the continued growth of existing businesses,” in an attempt to meet the needs of the changing neighborhood.
Issues related to transportation, business retention, job creation and livability will be explored in order to attract compatible economic development and employment opportunities for the surrounding area, according to project organizers.
“We anticipate that the plan will consider issues like an improved Clybourn Metra station, the Ashland-Elston-Clybourn intersection and how it can connect and support ongoing initiatives” including bus rapid transit on Ashland, The 606 and improved bicycle infrastructure, according to Zach Borders, director of planning and design at Civic Artworks.
