JEFFERSON PARK — The Chicago Shakespeare Theater will demonstrate what fools mortals are at Wilson Park Aug. 2-3 as part of the Shakespeare in the Parks performance series.
The theater, which is based at Navy Pier, will perform "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 2 and 4 p.m. Aug. 3 at Frank J. Wilson Park, 4630 N. Milwaukee Ave.
A specially equipped truck will roll into the park and unfold a stage and then a troupe of actors will bring a family-friendly version of one of William Shakespeare's most beloved plays to life.
By the end of August, the play directed by David H. Bell will have been performed in 18 parks across the city.
In the play, a quartet of mismatched lovers, a gaggle of hapless actors and mischievous sprites cross paths with the king and queen of the fairies, entangled in their own domestic dispute.
The performance, which incorporates acrobatics, is designed to transform Wilson Park into a "wondrous wood brimming with paramours and possibilities where the inexplicable magic of falling in love — and the marvel of waking up from the sweetest of dreams — is discovered, " according to the Chicago Shakespeare Theater.
The play is free.
