CHICAGO — A 23-year-old man was fatally shot Tuesday night in West Humboldt Park.

About 10:11 p.m., the man was riding his bike near the corner of North Hamlin Avenue and West Iowa Street when someone approached on foot and shot him in the head, police and neighbors said.

The gunman then fled the scene in a minivan, police said. The man was transported to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, where he was pronounced dead at 3:40 a.m. Wednesday.

Officials there identified him as Bruce Wright, of the 4300 block of West Lexington Street.

Police said Wright was a documented gang member.

On Wednesday, friends of Wright's who lived in the apartment building where he was shot remembered him as a good person. Wright, who went by "BJ," had a baby daughter.

"He was always good to his daughter," said Ricky, one of Wright's friends, who declined to give his last name.

Wright is at least the sixth person to be killed in Humboldt Park since mid-May and at least the third person killed this month, according to DNAinfo Chicago data.
