BRIDGEPORT — If you live Bridgeport, you're living in a watershed.

That's the message the McGuane Park advisory council is trying to get across in advance of the watershed education demonstration they're hosting.

The rain-or-shine event takes place 2-6 p.m. July 16 at the park's field house, 2901 S. Poplar Ave. It's free to attend.

Children and their parents will hear from master gardeners and local naturalists about the importance of watersheds, which are defined by the Environmental Protection Agency as an "area of land where all of the water that is under it or drains off of it goes into the same place," like marshes, streams, rivers and lakes.

The program is part of the sandbox garden project, which aims to educate kids about the native plant life growing in the Bridgeport area.
