One Dead, Seven Wounded in Overnight Shootings

CHICAGO — One person was killed and at least seven more were wounded in shootings Thursday night and Friday morning.

In West Englewood, 34-year-old Corey Hudson was killed in a drive-by shooting about 2:30 a.m. Friday. Another man, 35, was critically wounded.

In non-fatal shootings:

• About 5:20 a.m. Friday, an 18-year-old man was dropped off at the University of Illinois Hospital with a gunshot wound in his upper left leg, police said.

The man claims he was shot in the 4300 block of South Wood Street in Back of the Yards. He said someone hopped out of a passing car and opened fire before getting back in the car and driving off.

• A 21-year-old man walked into Mercy Hospital about 5:18 a.m. Friday with a gunshot wound in right thigh. He told police he was shot near 47th and Ada streets in Back of the Yards.

• About 3:45 a.m. Friday, an 18-year-old woman was shot in her buttocks in the 2400 block of South Homan Avenue in Little Village, police said.

• A 29-year-old man walked into Stroger Hospital about 2:30 a.m. Friday after he was shot in his lower left leg, police said.

The man said he was walking in the 3500 block of West Lake Street in East Garfield Park when he saw a group of men fighting across the street. Soon after, he "heard shots and felt pain," police said.

• A 56-year-old man was shot in his leg in West Englewood about 12:20 a.m. Friday. Police said the man was being uncooperative after the shooting at 74th Street and Winchester Avenue.

The victim was listed in good condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

• A 21-year-old man is in critical condition after he was shot in his arm and stomach about 9:45 p.m. Thursday in Humboldt Park, police said. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital after the shooting in the 600 block of North Ridgeway Avenue.

No one was in custody for any of the shootings.

Also Friday, police shot and seriously wounded a man after he opened fire at officers around 4 a.m., a police union spokesman said.
