LAKEVIEW — This year, police vowed to crack down on public drinking during the Pride Parade. And while 230 citations isn't much considering that more than a million people flooded the district, ticketing was up quite a bit from last year.

In 2013, 10 citations were issued on parade day, Town Hall Police Capt. Bill Looney said Wednesday at a community policing meeting.

This year, at least 230 citations were written during the parade and related events.

"There was a mixture," Looney said when he spoke about arrests and tickets issued Sunday. "A lot of drinking alcohol in the public way, a lot of trespass. But it was a mixture. I couldn't say it was mainly one category."

In the weeks leading up to the parade, police warned revelers they'd be watching for public drinking, rooftop parties and overcrowded balconies.

"It's important for everybody to know that those caught drinking on the public way will be given a citation," Cmdr. Elias Voulgaris said in June. "Because it's in the vicinity of the parade, it's a $1,000 fine."

Town Hall district police said they were still crunching numbers on Sunday's tickets as officers continued to file paperwork, so the number could be even higher when all was said and done.

As of Wednesday night, 230 citations were recorded — but exactly how many of these had $1,000 fines has not been made publicly available.
