CHICAGO — A 16-year-boy is dead after he apparently fell into Lake Michigan Sunday night, police said.

The incident occurred around 6:10 p.m. Sunday when the boy fell into the lake near the 4000 block of North Recreation Drive, said Officer Michael Sullivan, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.

The teen was pulled from the water and taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he later died, Sullivan said.

The boy, whose name has not been released pending notification of his family, was pronounced dead at 7:16 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Officers are investigating his death as an apparent accident, police said.
