AVONDALE — The Avondale Neighborhood Association is partnering with the Great Chicago Fire Festival to celebrate the residents of Avondale this Saturday.

The neighborhood was one of 15 chosen in Chicago and will host a block party June 28 from 1-9 p.m. on the 2900 block of North Ridgeway. From there the party will spread to other neighborhoods culminating with a mass gathering October 4 that will "express the city’s unique character by celebrating Chicago’s epic resurgence following the fire of 1871."

Redmoon Theater has launched an ambitious performance project to observe the anniversary of the Chicago Fire and Avondale has been chosen as one of the first neighborhoods to participate in what will be an annual event that will ultimately include all of Chicago's neighborhoods.

The group will dance to beats by DJ King Tony, make art and capture neighborhood
stories that show the resilience, courage and strength of the community with The Mobile Photo Factory.

Families are invited to help judge a friendly bake-off competition.
