EDISON PARK — The renovation of the playground at Brooks Park is almost complete, and Edison Park officials are looking for volunteers to help put the finishing touches on the new playlot.

Brooks Park, 7100 N. Harlem Ave., won all new equipment through the Park District's Chicago Plays! Playground Renovation program.

Volunteers are needed from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Friday to help spread the wood-based soft Fibar surface on the new playground at the nine-acre park. The playground was last renovated in 1992.

The park is named after former Edison Park park district President Oscar E. Brooks, who served as an Edison Park village trustee for five years before becoming a park board member in 1920, according to the Chicago Park District's website.

Volunteers should bring a pair of work gloves and wear sneakers or boots, Friends of the Parks advised.

Chicago Plays!, which is a program administered by Friends of the Parks, plans to renovate 300 playgrounds throughout the city over the next five years.

Two other Edison Park playgrounds — Monument Park and Olympia Park — are set to be renovated in the fall, according to the Edison Park Chamber of Commerce.
