BRIDGEPORT — The budding farmers with Growing Power's urban farms are inviting diners to taste the fruits (and veggies) of their labor at a barbecue party.

The "Beets and BBQ" bash takes kicks off at 5 p.m. Sunday at the urban farm at an old Bridgeport trucking warehouse at 3333 S. Iron St.

Tickets for the event cost $35 and are available online here. The admission price includes farm-fresh food and barbecue prepared by Dream Cafe and Grille and beers from Revolution Brewery.

DJs Jesse De la Pena and Chris Quinn will provide the musical backdrop for the evening, which also includes a farm tour, honey tasting and an invitation to pet the farm's goats.

Proceeds are headed to held fund Growing Power's work in Chicago, which employs upward of 300 teens at several urban farms and gardens throughout the city.

Organizes are asking guests to consider an additional $15 donation to help pay for stipends for teens in the organization's summer programs.
