WICKER PARK — An apartment leasing agency made its entry into Wicker Park Friday with the opening of a new office just west of the Milwaukee, Damen and North Avenues intersection.
Located under the CTA Blue Line "L" tracks, Chicago Apartment Finders' Wicker Park office at 2025 W. North Ave. has replaced a long vacant storefront that formerly housed a home furnishings and antique shop, Asian Essence.
"We like to be near an 'L' stop and close to transit. We were contemplating this area for a long time but were waiting for the right location," said Andy Ahitow, co-founder of Chicago Apartment Finders, which currently employs 120 agents at five offices around the city.
Ahitow said the new office, which celebrated its soft opening Friday morning, is accepting walk-ins through the weekend but will not be officially booking appointments with apartment seekers until next week.
The Wicker Park office will match apartment seekers with new residences west of the Kennedy expressway, where Chicago Apartment Finders' leasing agents already establish about 500 new leases a year, Ahitow said.
A search in the Chicago Apartment Finders database showed nine apartments for rent in Wicker Park and 11 apartments available in Bucktown, a sharp contrast to Logan Square, which offers 50 available rentals.
When asked about the difficulty of finding an apartment to rent in Wicker Park, Ahitow said, "There is always a supply-demand issue in this neighborhood. There are a lot more apartments if you go west of Western."
According to the Chicago Apartment Finders website, rent ranges in Bucktown from $800 to $1,100 per month for a studio apartment, $900 to $1,400 for a one-bedroom apartment, $1,200 to $2,000 for a two-bedroom and $1,600 to $3,000 for a three-bedroom dwelling.
Rent ranges in Wicker Park are higher than Bucktown, with prices ranging from $1,250 to $1,800 per month for a studio, $1,300 to $1,500 for a one-bedroom, $1700 to $2500 for a two-bedroom and $2,200 to $3,000 for a three-bedroom.
