UPTOWN — The Night Ministry raised more than $400,000 this month that the social service agency said would bolster its efforts to feed, house and provide health services and more to people suffering from poverty and homelessness
An auction and donation drive held at the Night Ministry's 2014 Awards Dinner and Auction yielded more than $400,000, according to the organization. The Night Ministry, 4711 N. Ravenswood Ave., said the money can be used to help fund the organization's mobile outreach programs, and its four youth shelter programs.
"We were amazed at the generosity of the people at our event," Night Ministry spokeswoman Stacy Massey said. "We are so happy that they understand that they are a huge part of us being able to do the work we do."
The Night Ministry said in a release that more than 400 people showed up for the event earlier this month.
Several individuals and organizations received awards.
Janine Landow-Esser, a partner in the Quarles & Brady law firm, was honored for her work with the Night Ministry's homeless outreach bus and for her efforts with help from Anshe Emet Synagogue to serve meals to youngsters in need.
Lake View Lutheran Church was honored as an "Outstanding Community Partner" for housing a youth shelter, The Crib, and serving the clients there monthly meals.
And international law firm Winston & Strawn was given an "Outstanding Corporate Partner" award for being "a long-time supporter of the Night Ministry."
Night Ministry President Paul W. Hamann said in a statement that "it was heartwarming to be amongst so many generous, devoted supporters."
The Night Ministry also received a $100,000 grant earlier this month that the organization said it would use to buy another outreach bus.
