BRIDGEPORT — Hop on the bus and head to the beach.

The CTA has announced new weekend service to 31st Street Beach via the No. 35 bus route.

New this year, the buses won't stop at a South Side hub for beach-bound shuttles. Instead, the buses will continue straight to the sandy shores.

The buses will run nonstop to the beach from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays until Labor Day.

The normal service, which begins and ends at 35th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue, will continue during early morning and late evenings on weekends and at all times on weekdays, the CTA said.

The seasonal change means riders on the route's far west end — on the now-permanent route extension of the No. 35 bus to 31st Street between Kedzie and Cicero avenues — can board a bus in Little Village and head right to the beach, something that wasn't possible before.
