LAKEVIEW — Chicago Bike Week kicks off Friday with special discounts and pop-up shops across the city.

But you don't have to leave home to be part of the action. Lakeview stores are offering pit-stops, tune-ups, free coffee and discounted beer.

Plus, nearly 40 businesses have signed on to be part of the area's Bike-Friendly Business District program, an ongoing initiative launched this month.

If you bike to any of the participating shops (listed here) and bring in your helmet as proof, you'll get anywhere from 5 to 25 percent off your bill, or a bonus item like a free water bottle or goodie bag.

Lakeview Bike Week Events:

Schubas Bike Bash: From noon-4 p.m. Saturday, Schubas Tavern will provide bike tune-ups, demos and workshops — not to mention barbecue and $3 Revolution beers (Anti-Hero, Bottom Up Wit, Rosa Hibiscus).

Raffle prizes include bike swag, Schubas gift cards and a custom Revolution Brewing bike from The Bike Lane. And if you bring in your old bike to donate to The Working Bikes Cooperative, you'll get 10 bonus tickets. Schubas Tavern, 3159 N. Southport Ave.

On the Route Bicycles Pit Stop: Swing by the commuter pit stop at Lincoln and Barry avenues from 6:30-9 a.m. Monday for free Whole Foods coffee, giveaways and help from a bike mechanic.

Heritage Bicycles Pit Stop: Tuesday's stop is at Lincoln and Wellington avenues from 6:30-9 a.m. Stop by for free Whole Foods coffee, giveaways and help from a bike mechanic.
