CHICAGO — A fire in Humboldt Park killed one person and critically injured another, fire officials said.

Crews responded to a fire in the 900 block of North Lawndale Avenue around 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

One person was dead on the scene, and another was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, fire officials said.

A woman thought to be in her 20s, whose identity is still unknown, was pronounced dead at 10:15 a.m. at the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, officials there said.

Squatters were living in the home, fire officials said.
