CHICAGO — Police Supt. Garry McCarthy has been released from Northwestern Memorial Hospital after undergoing surgery to address blockage in his arteries, a spokesman said Saturday.

McCarthy was hospitalized Thursday morning after reportedly suffering a heart attack.

He underwent a "common procedure to address blockage in his arteries," Police Department spokesman Adam Collins said.

Collins said the surgery was successful and McCarthy was "doing very well, resting comfortably at home and looking forward to being back on patrol very soon."
