CHICAGO — A shooting in South Austin left an 18-year-old man dead and two other men seriously injured Wednesday and a second shooting in the neighborhood hours later left another man hospitalized.

In the first incident, the three victims were walking about 5 p.m. in the 4900 block of West End Avenue when a car pulled up near an alley and a group of men got out of the vehicle and began firing at the men. The shooters then ran off, said Officer Amina Greer, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Ronald Holliman, 18, was shot in the buttocks, thigh and knee and then taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he later died, Greer said.

Holliman, of the 5200 block of West Race Avenue, was pronounced dead at 6:28 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

A 21-year-old man was also taken to Mt. Sinai, where his condition was stabilized, after being shot in the arm, leg and stomach. His condition was later updated to critical, Greer said.

A 26-year-old man was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition after being shot in the chest and side, Greer said.

No one is in custody and detectives are investigating, Greer said.

About three hours later, a 22-year-old man was shot in the armpit near North Central Avenue and West Chicago Avenue in Austin. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition after the shooting, which occurred at 8:15 p.m., said Greer.
