WEST TOWN — Roots Handmade Pizza is celebrating another year in the neighborhood with a day-long party that includes specials and free birthday cake.

During restaurant hours from 11 a.m.-2 a.m. Monday, Roots will offer 20 percent off dine-in Quad Cities pizzas, $3 Roots house brew drafts, half price canned beers and canned ciders, free Roots koozies and, yes, free birthday cake from West Town Bakery & Diner, to be given out later in the evening to celebrate the three-year milestone.

The restaurant will also have special craft beer on tap, according to a press release.

Owners Greg Mohr and Scott Weiner opened Roots back in May 2011 at 1924 W. Chicago Ave. Since then, they've announced an eventual expansion to Lincoln Square.

A Lakeview location may also be in the works for the duo.
