LAKEVIEW — As the city preps for Pride, one Lakeview business is offering a free self-defense workshop for LGBT folks and allies.
The 90-minute session focuses on combating hate speech, learning basic self-defense moves and handling bullying and stereotyping.
"We stress a lot how to use your voice to set up boundaries and stand up for yourself, or to intervene for others," said Yesica Barrera, an instructor with Thousand Waves, which is hosting the event.
The workshop runs from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on June 14 at Thousand Waves, 1220 W. Belmont Ave. Registration is required, and the event is capped at 20 people.
