CHICAGO — A 96-year-old woman died Thursday evening after she crashed her vehicle in an alleyway in Norwood Park.

Lillian Fruhauf, 96, was driving down an alleyway in the 5600 block of North Northwest Highway about 4:20 p.m. when she crashed into a building, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman.

Fruhauf, who lived nearby in the 5700 block of North Merrimac Avenue, was taken to Lutheran General Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 6:05 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Autopsy results were still pending as of Friday, but authorities said Fruhauf may have had a "medical event" which prompted the crash.
