CHICAGO — Three Days on Thorndale will celebrate Swift Elementary School's centennial, business openings and more from Thursday to Saturday.

The event is being held because Thorndale Avenue has seen significant growth, said Ally Brisbin, marketing and events coordinator for the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce. Ald. Harry Osterman (48th) came up with the idea.

Brisbin said though Thorndale will continue to grow, Three Days on Thorndale may not return next year.

"A lot of things are unique and won't happen every year, so probably not," Brisbin said. "But there will be sustained growth and development on Thorndale."

Brisbin is the co-owner of one of the businesses that will be featured, Edgewater Workbench, which will give a 3-D printing demo each day of the event. The business will eventually provide a space and 3-D printer for locals to work on their projects since many don't have basement or garage space, Brisbin said.

"I have kind of a personal hook in there," Brisbin said. "I'm pretty excited about all of it."

Broadway Armory Kitchen, which will teach gardeners how to cook what they grow, will also have an open house during Three Days on Thorndale, and Swift Elementary School will celebrate its centennial, among other events.
