ROGERS PARK — Beach lovers and park-goers should see an increased police presence on the lakefront over the next two weeks as police officers on bikes roll out to patrol lakeside beaches and parks.

"You’ll see an increased presence," Officer Mike Stachula told residents Thursday night at a community policing meeting.

Residents said more and more people — some fighting, drinking and drug-dealing — have occupied the neighborhood's beaches in recent days as the weather warms.

A woman who said she lived on Rogers Avenue, overlooking the park and beach, said she witnessed a group of people drinking and fighting.

"They were escalating and screaming," she said. "I didn’t want anyone to get hurt. It’s not just loitering in the park; it’s not just drinking."

Stachula said to expect “stronger enforcement action."
