CHICAGO — An 18-year-old man was shot dead in Humboldt Park, the second person murdered in the neighborhood since Wednesday afternoon.

Police received reports of shots being fired in the 1300 block of North Hamlin Avenue about 1:20 a.m. Thursday, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a police spokeswoman.

When they arrived, police found a teen with a gunshot wound in his head near the corner of Hamlin and Grand avenues. He was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Robert Waldon, of the 3800 block of West Grand Avenue.

Waldon was pronounced dead on the scene at 1:54 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Waldon was found just outside the Geneva Foundation, a transitional youth home he was involved with, officials said. Police said Waldon was a documented gang member.

On Wednesday afternoon, 38-year-old Lewis Jenkins was killed after being shot in the 700 block of North Springfield Avenue. Another man was also injured in that attack.
