CHICAGO — Haute Sausage owner Rich Levy doesn't want you to remove those Hot Doug's tattoos just yet.

"Similar to how other businesses honor each other's coupons, we will honor Hot Doug's tattoos," Levy said.

Levy said his food truck and Loop restaurant, 335 S. Franklin St., will give a free sausage to any person bearing permanent ink in the name of Hot Doug's, the beloved Avondale "encased meats emporium" closing in October.

Doug Sohn, the owner of Hot Doug's, rewarded those fans who got tattoos with free sausages.

When news of the closing broke earlier this month, Hot Doug's said on Twitter "we thank you for your support & suggest you don’t get a Hot Doug's tattoo any time soon."

Levy suggested his initiative would honor a restaurant that had helped him and others get into the sausage game.

"The reason we are doing this is to pay homage to Hot Doug's, whose shoulders on which the entire sausage scene is based," Levy said.

Haute Sausage will offer the deal through the end of the year, though it may continue into 2015, Levy said.
