CHICAGO — The Far North Side's Emil Bach House and Indian Boundary Park field house were among the winners of the city's Preservation Excellence Awards on Thursday.
The full restorations of the Chicago landmarks were completed this year.
In Rogers Park, the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Emil Bach House had been faithfully restored by Col. Jennifer Pritzker's Tawani Enterprises.
Members of the Frank Lloyd Wright House Trust hailed the restoration as "one of the most complete restorations" of a Wright house ever.
The Commission on Chicago Landmarks said the restoration was "based on careful historic research and materials investigation."
The Emil Bach house was designated a Chicago Landmark on Sept. 28, 1977.
In West Rogers Park, the Indian Boundary Park field house was restored by the Chicago Park District after a fire severely damaged the landmark building in 2012.
The field house, built in the 1920s and designated a Chicago landmark in 2005, reopened in January.
"Restoration work included the replication of the first-floor ballroom based on historic documentation and original drawings, the reinstallation of salvaged timbers, and the restoration of salvaged lighting fixtures," the landmark commission said.
The multicolored slate roof was also repaired.
Eleven other projects across the city have also been honored for preserving Chicago’s architectural landscape.
