CHICAGO — A 31-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his 26-year-old girlfriend following a domestic dispute in a West Town apartment, police said.

Daniel Kralik, of the 2200 block of West Iowa Street, admitted to the slaying and is due in court Thursday, police said.

The woman was killed inside an apartment in the 1200 block of North Rockwell Street about 12:40 a.m., according to Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman.

Officers said the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute, but offered few details Wednesday.

The woman — who was later identified as Victoria McManus — was pronounced dead on the scene at 12:55 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Neighbor Felicia Borders, who's lived in the area for five years, said she was shocked when she heard about the woman's death Wednesday.

"It's scary to hear that," Borders said. "Even if it's [an isolated incident], it's still a person's life."

"I saw the police driving through here, but I didn't think anything of it," said a 26-year-old neighbor who didn't want to be named.

The man said he wasn't worried about the slaying because it's the type of thing that can happen anywhere.

"It was probably some sort of boyfriend-girlfriend argument, and he took it too far. It's not something to get scared over," he said.
