COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — Police arrested a man on charges of ambushing three women in Lincoln Park and Lakeview in separate attacks, cracking them in the head with a heavy object as they walked down the street.
Kevin Jones, 30, is charged with three counts of aggravated battery for allegedly attacking the three women. One is 66 years old, one is 21 and the age of the third was not specified.
The first attack happened April 30 when a woman was walking in the 3000 block of North Halsted Street, prosecutors said. Jones emerged from behind the pole of a street light and hit her without provocation, prosecutors alleged.
Four hours later, Jones hit a second woman over the head in the 900 block of West Diversey Parkway, prosecutors said.
Both women were taken to hospitals and treated for head injuries. One of them required a CT scan, which showed the woman had suffered a chipped skull.
Prosecutors gave no motive for the attacks.
Jones was arrested after the final attack, prosecutors said. In that case the woman was walking in the 2600 block of North Sheffield Avenue on May 10.
Traveling in the opposite direction, Jones hit her as they passed and then fled, prosecutors said. The woman called 911.
Police found Jones in the 2700 block of North Kenmore Avenue a short time later.
Jones, of the 2600 block of North Sheffield Avenue, was brought before a judge on the charges Monday and ordered held in lieu of $400,000.
