CHICAGO — A 25-year-old man died after he was shot in West Garfield Park Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

About 1:37 p.m., the 25-year-old was in the 4100 block of West Adams Street when two gunmen stepped out of a dark colored minivan and opened fire, said Officer Jose Estrada, a police spokesman.

The man was shot repeatedly in his body, and the two gunmen got back in the minivan and fled the scene, police said.

Xavier Tripp, 25, of the 1500 block of North Long Avenue in Austin, was rushed to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:15 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Area North detectives are investigating, and no one is currently in custody.

Authorities said the man was a documented gang member and are investigating whether the shooting was gang-related.
