ENGLEWOOD — A Chicago Police DUI Strike Force patrolled Englewood two weeks ago to make sure motorists were not driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and police will return this weekend for a second patrol.

Officers from the Englewood District will be checking motorists from 8 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday at 6401 S. Ashland Ave., officials said.

Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said officers would be on the lookout for signs of impaired driving, speeding and safety belt violations.

“This program is conducted year round to ensure drivers are operating their vehicles safely,” McCarthy said. “This is part of an ongoing strategy to keep the city streets safe for Chicago’s residents and commuters.”

This weekend's effort comes after police conducted a DUI patrol in the Gresham District last week.

Police said the checkpoint resulted in seven DUI arrests and tickets for five insurance violations, four driver's license violations, six unsafe vehicle violations and six other citations.
