BRIDGEPORT — A suburban man and his female teenage accomplice were charged in connection with a residential burglary attempt, police said.

Edward Santiago, 22, of Lockport, was arrested about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, after he was spotted walking away from a residence in the 2900 block of South Haynes Court clutching boxes of goods he'd just stolen, police said.

A 16-year-old girl from Brookfield had been waiting in a car for him to return.

Santiago dropped the boxes and ran away but was caught after a foot chase, police said. The girl was arrested shortly after that.

Santiago and the teen were each hit with one count of felony residential burglary, police said.

Santiago appeared in bond court Wednesday, where bail was set at $50,000.

Authorities said it's unclear if Tuesday's incident is connected to a rash of daytime residential burglaries that have taken place throughout the Bridgeport area in recent weeks.
