CHICAGO — Four people were shot in a River North drive-by shooting Sunday, police said.

The victims were standing in a cul-de-sac in the 500 block of West Erie Street about 3:10 a.m. when a dark-colored van drove past, police said. People inside the van flashed gang signs and yelled gang slogans before opening fire, police said.

A 20-year-old man was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition, police said. He was shot in the head. On Sunday morning, police said the man had died, but said Sunday night he was still alive.

Three other men were injured: a 21-year-old shot in his left torso, a 20-year-old shot in his foot, and a 19-year-old shot in his shoulder. All three were taken to area hospitals.

Police said all four victims were self-admitted gang members, and the shooting could be gang related.

No further information was immediately available.
