WEST ROGERS PARK — A new weekly community market on Devon Avenue will offer attendees "a real mix" of food, clothing and music, said Mary Arents, the market's manager.

"Just like Devon Avenue is a mix," said Arents, a self-described "farmers market junkie."

After a trial run last year, the market will move from a monthly schedule to weekly, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays from July 9 to Sept. 17 in the Republic Bank parking lot at 2720 W. Devon Ave.

Arents, who was hired by the city to launch the new market, said she is signing up vendors who represent the "local flavor" of Devon's many ethnicities, from artisanal bakeries to butcher shops.

She's also signing up music artists to perform.

The market also will feature fruits and vegetables.

"I have shopped at farmers markets in the Chicago area for more than a decade," Arents said. "From that I carry a deep passion for farmers markets and the way that they bring healthy and fresh produce from the region to urban dwellers."

She said she hopes neighbors “come for a bite and stay for the bounty" when the market kicks off in July.

Prospective market vendors can apply online.
